Plan a recoverable backup workflow
Give your operator a repeatable way to verify restoration, not just archive creation.
- Operator access and an isolated rehearsal environment.
Step-by-step walkthrough
- 01
Identify everything needed for recovery: database records and roles, deployment configuration, secrets under appropriate protection, and any externally stored attachments.
- 02
Create a backup using the supported deployment tooling and verify its checksums and archive readability. Record which release and migration state it contains.
- 03
Restore into an isolated environment with no production worker or provider access. Verify application login, ownership and grants, tenant safeguards, and attachment hashes.
- 04
Record the measured recovery time and what was actually tested. A database rehearsal alone is not a full host rebuild or an external-provider delivery test.
- 05
Keep an accessible copy outside the production server and document retention and recovery ownership. Verify the provider’s backup scope rather than assuming it covers every failure.
Expected result
A backup with recorded verification, recovery evidence, and an understood scope.
Important details
Do not restore a test backup over a live database. Returning to an older server after live writes requires data reconciliation.
